Good Ideas for Your National Night Out Event
- Invite city officials. Extend invitations to City Council members, school principals or city staff members to attend your block party.
- Provide a sign-in sheet and nametags. Make sure you have a sign-in sheet with the names of everyone who attends the party and everyone you contacted. After all, the idea of the block party is to connect neighbors.
- Institute a bathroom policy. Encourage everyone to use their own so that home security is maintained.
- Evaluate the event. Distribute an evaluation form to participants. To get a good response, you may consider numbering the forms and having door prizes for the returned entries.
- Get it clean, keep it clean. Recruit a team to tidy up the streets and sidewalks and to walk the area after the event to remove signs and pick up trash. Inspire a clean up party by rewarding children with a prize for picking up garbage.
- Share with your neighbors. Ask neighbors to bring their lawn chairs and picnic tables out for communal use.
- Notify car owners. Recruit volunteers to help post “no parking” signs.
