Chairman’s Corner

Well, this is the final installment of the Chairman’s Corner for 2008, so I want to leave you with a few updates. After attending the NAR conference and perusing thousands of vendors, I sifted through and found my top three products for 2009.

1. Green Designation: As you may know, NAR has a new Green designation for REALTORS®. In my opinion, this designation is more about education and less

about status. Our knowledge of green building technologies will become more important as the years pass. Click here to learn more about upcoming Green designation sessions.

2. Video, Video, Video: YouTube is here to stay! Consumers love to see virtual tours of homes, but most of us do not have the skills to produce high-quality property videos. There are lots of vendors, but the easiest and most cost effective tool for ABoR members is Property Panorama. What makes this such a great product is that it costs only $5 per MLS number. The tour is then converted to a video and automatically uploaded to YouTube. It’s incredible!!!

3. Listing Web Sites: Most sellers want a personal Web site if possible, and lots of vendors offer these services. The best and most effective company I’ve found is Listing Domains. I know I recommended them earlier this year, but they now offer texting capabilities that allow consumers to access property information using their cell phones.  Let’s face it, most consumers don’t ride around with laptops in their cars, but everyone has a cell phone. Plus if you use code NAR08, you’ll get the Web site and text code for only $40, a $25 savings.

The time has come for me to pass the gavel and I’d like to thank you for your continued support throughout 2008. Without your patience and dedication, this year would not have been a successful one! I look forward to seeing you in 2009. Have a safe and happy holiday season!!!

Always,

Socar Chatmon-Thomas
2008 Chairman of the Board
