November 2009

Chairman’s Corner

Greetings!

As I sit down to write this note, I realize there are many important issues at the forefront of our industry. The focus on extending the first-time homebuyers tax credit has intensified in recent weeks. On Friday, November 6, 2009, the bill to extend and expand the tax credit was passed. The REALTOR® Action Center is a great resource – helping REALTORS® stay abreast of the latest news and information regarding

the tax credit and its expansion.

Beyond the current legislative debates, I wanted to take the time to remind you of revisions recently made by the Texas Association of REALTORS® (TAR) to the following forms: Residential Lease (TAR 2001), Extension of Residential Lease (TAR 2005) and Residential Lease for a Multi-Family Property Unit (TAR 2011).  The Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) has also made changes to two of their contracts – New Home Contract (Incomplete Construction; TREC 23-9, TAR 1603) and New Home Contract (Completed Construction; TREC 24-9, TAR 1604).

As you may know, these changes became effective September 1. If you have not already begun using the new forms, you should begin doing so immediately. You can learn more about the changes and find copies of the updated forms by visiting TAR and TREC on the Web.

Jay Gohil
2009 Chairman of the Board

Water Treatment Plant 4 Moves Forward

Recently you’ve heard from ABoR about the construction of Water Treatment Plant 4 (WTP4) and its importance for the local Austin community to help sustain our quality of life and meet the city’s growing water needs. ABoR is pleased to share with you that the Austin City Council has given the green light to move forward with the project.

Both supporters and opponents of WTP4 capitalized on the opportunity to speak before the city council, expressing their thoughts and opinions before the ballots were cast at the council meeting on October 22. The vote was close with 4-3 in favor of the project. Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell and Mayor Pro Tem Mike Martinez were among those who voted yes to WTP4.
