TREC Now Requires Fingerprinting for LicenseesBeginning January 1, the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) requires all new and renewing licensees to be fingerprinted. Mandated by the Texas Legislature (HB 1530, 80th Legislature), this new procedure gives the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) the ability to perform a criminal history check on every licensee. Once a licensee’s fingerprints have been filed with the DPS, he or she will not need to be fingerprinted again.Fingerprinting appointments must be scheduled in advance online or via telephone. Persons renewing their licenses should plan to have their fingerprints taken at least 10 days before their renewal date to avoid a renewal delay. For more information on TREC’s fingerprint policy, visit http://www.trec.state.tx.us/FASTPrintPass/.
