ABoR COMMEMORATES REALTOR® SAFETY WEEK WITH SELF-DEFENSE COURSE

August 31, 2005 - In some lines of work, on-the-job dangers are readily apparent. Construction workers know to avoid exposed nails the same way surgeons know to wear gloves. For REALTORS®, however, work-related hazards may be difficult to identify. That is why the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and the Austin Board of REALTORS® (ABoR) are teaming up for the third annual REALTOR® Safety Week, running this year from September 11-17.

A recent NAR survey showed that more than half of all respondents reported experiencing safety concerns, incidents or harassing situations on the job. Should a threatening situation present itself, would you know how to properly respond? Though it is an unpleasant premise, it's one that needs to be addressed and one that ABoR wants to help you navigate.

ABoR and the Austin Martial Arts Academy are collaborating on a self-defense course tailored to real estate professionals' needs for REALTOR® Safety Week. The class will be held on Wednesday, September 14 from 2-3 p.m. in the ABoR auditorium, located at 10900 Stonelake Blvd. in Austin. If there is significant demand, a second session will be added from 3-4 p.m. The hour-long class is being offered to ABoR members for the discounted price of $10. Participants are encouraged to wear professional attire to replicate real life. You will need to register by September 9.

During Safety Week, ABoR will also be distributing wallet-sized safety tips cards. The cards will be available at the ABoR office.

The Austin Board of REALTORS® is a non-profit, voluntary organization representing more than 7,000 licensed REALTORS® in Central Texas. For further information, contact Angela Brutsché at 512/454-7636 ext. 1300.
