MARGARET C. BERRY NAMED 2005 MOST WORTHY CITIZEN

March 23, 2005 - The Austin Board of REALTORS® (ABoR) annually recognizes a member of the Austin community for a lifetime of outstanding community service with its Most Worthy Citizen Award. The Association is proud to announce Margaret Catherine Berry, Ed.D. as the 2005 recipient of this prestigious award.

An educational pioneer, writer and respected civic leader, Berry has been working to better the Austin community since the 1930s and continues to inspire at age 90, giving two dozen speaking engagements each year and working on her ninth book. A teacher and administrator at The University of Texas at Austin from 1962 until 1980, Berry returned to UT after retirement to teach a freshman seminar from 1995 until 2002. Her recent efforts have been with the Foundation for Religious Studies in Texas to support the program at UT.

Her work has been recognized with numerous awards, including UT's Distinguished Alumnus Award, the Pro Bene Meritis Award and the Nowotny Medal from UT as well as the Distinguished Service Award given by the National Association for Women in Education. Three scholarships and one fellowship have been created in her honor.

The 2005 Most Worthy Citizen luncheon will be held Thursday, April 14, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Renaissance Austin Hotel. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased by contacting Sally Yaryan at 512/454-7636, ext. 1600 or syaryan@abor.com.
