HOME SALES REMAIN STRONG IN 2005

March 9, 2005 - Recent statistics indicate a notable increase in home sales for January 2005. According to the Austin Board of REALTORS®' (ABoR) January MLS (Multiple Listing Service) Report, the number of existing single family home sales for January 2005 was 1,401, a 37 percent increase over January 2004. The median home price for single family homes showed almost no change, remaining relatively steady at $148,000, an increase of one percent from last January's median home price.

Available inventory in Austin dropped from this time last year. According to ABoR's MLS Report, REALTORS® listed approximately 7,982 active listings in the MLS system, a 10 percent decrease from January 2004.

The amount of time homes spent on the market before selling showed a small increase from this time of the year. The average single family home spent 79 days on the market (DOM), a 3 percent increase from January 2004.
