ABoR Announces Industry Award Winners

November 23, 2005 - The Austin Board of REALTORS® happily announces the winners of the 2005 industry awards. Every year, ABoR singles out pillars of the real estate profession to receive one of the following honors: REALTOR® of the Year, Affiliate of the Year, Rookie of the Year, the Chairman's Award, the Community Service Award and the Cultural Awareness Award. ABoR proudly congratulates this year's deserving honorees.



REALTOR® of the Year

CAROL MEDLEY PARKER
Coldwell Banker United REALTORS®

An ABoR member for over 20 years, the 2005 recipient of the REALTOR® of the Year award is an effective and dynamic leader in Central Texas real estate. Carol Medley Parker has been an active force in the local and state associations, serving as a TAR director, TAR regional representative, ACTRIS director and ABoR director. Parker held the office of chairman of the ABoR Board in 2004. A committed TREPAC supporter, she is currently vice-chair of the ABoR Foundation and a member of the ABoR Professional Standards and Ethics Hearings committees. In addition, Parker served in leadership roles for the Women's Council of REALTORS®, is a TREC certified instructor and received the Omega Tau Rho award.


Affiliate of the Year

BILLY MEYERDIRK
Home Critic Inspections

Billy Meyerdirk is this year's recipient of the Affiliate of the Year award. A lifetime member of TREPAC, Meyerdirk is an active ABoR supporter, regularly participating in and offering sponsorship support of ABoR events. Meyerdirk and his staff have spent countless hours volunteering for Realty Round Up, TREPAC fundraisers and Installation banquets. He currently serves as ethics chairman on the Texas Real Estate Commission's (TREC) Inspectors Committee.



Chairman's Award

LYNDA CONWAY
J.B. Goodwin REALTORS®

2005 Chairman of the Board Roger Sturgell will present Lynda Conway with the 2005 Chairman's Award. Conway, ABoR's 2002 Salesperson of the Year, has made service to the REALTOR® community a priority. An approved ABoR and TREC instructor, she has served on the Professional Development and Education Committee since 1997, chairing the committee from 2000- 2003. Recently, she developed the MCE course "Truth in Advertising," aimed at helping agents avoid precarious advertising practices. J.B. Goodwin, REALTORS® has awarded her the President's Crescent Award numerous times.


Community Service Award

SHERI BRUMMET
Coldwell Banker United REALTORS®

A tireless volunteer, Sheri Brummett will be presented with the REALTOR® Community Service Award to recognize her dedication to the Austin community. Brummett is the current president of the Chi Omega Sorority Mother's Club at The University of Texas where she supports fundraising efforts for the Make-A-Wish Charity Foundation. She regularly dedicates time to the residents at the Western Hills Retirement Home and the Burnet Lane Retirement Home. Brummett is also very much involved in the educational community, working at Mathews Elementary School with the school carnival, book fair, reading mentor program and the KLRU Family Reading Workshop. Her volunteer activities extend to the real estate community with her active involvement in the Most Worthy Citizen Committee and the ABoR Foundation.


Cultural Awareness Award

JAY GOHIL
Jay Gohil Realty

Jay Gohil has been selected to receive the Cultural Awareness Award. Gohil served as chair of the 2003 ABoR Cultural Diversity committee and is a former chair of the Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce. Actively involved in diverse industry groups such as Women's Council of REALTORS® (WCR) and the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP), Gohil was also a director for the Network of Austin Asian Organizations, a treasurer of the Asian Construction Trade Association and a spokesperson for the Multi-Ethnic Chamber Alliance (MECA). Gohil founded the Asian Real Estate Professionals (AREP) group in 2004 and currently serves as an ABoR director and ACTRIS chair-elect.


Rookie of the Year

JULIE LEFFELMAN
Coldwell Banker United REALTORS®

The 2005 Rookie of the Year award will be presented to Julie Leffelman. A REALTOR® for less than 18 months, Leffelman has earned the GRI designation and begun working on the CRS designation. In 2005, Leffelman closed 18 transactions. Even with a busy schedule of selling homes and completing education, she is an active member of ABoR. Leffelman served on the ABoR Political Action Committee, supporting TREPAC and legislative efforts including attending the annual REALTOR® Day at the Capitol. She is also a member of the Women's Council of REALTORS®. Presented annually, the industry awards are determined by a committee of ABoR members who review nominations submitted by the ABoR membership.
