Jody Conradt Selected as 2007 Most Worthy Citizen
Since 1976-2007, Conradt has used her position as head women's basketball coach at The University of Texas to become a valuable mentor to many female students. In her coaching years, Conradt won 900 games, an impressive feat, while at the same time winning even more hearts. The dedication she possessed for her players shone through in her success rate, as 99 percent of her student-athletes are college graduates. She took pride not only in coaching, but in instilling strong morals and leadership qualities in all of the young women whom she instructed. Recently, Conradt announced her retirement from coaching, though her influences will certainly live on, season to season.
In 1998, Conradt was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts, making her the second woman in history to receive the honor. Additionally, Conradt has received numerous other awards, including induction into the International Scholar-Athlete Hall of Fame and the Texas Women's Hall of Fame, as well the Dallas Field Scovell Award and the Kansas City CASEY award.
Moreover, Conradt dedicates her time to many local non-profit organizations, including Caritas of Austin, Safeplace, the American Cancer Society, Girl Scouts, and the United Way.
The 2007 Most Worthy Citizen luncheon will be held Friday, April 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Renaissance Austin Hotel. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased by contacting Sally Yaryan at 512/454-7636, ext. 1600.
