Real Estate Industry Award Winners Recognized
REALTOR® of the Year
Gordon Gorychka, The GORDON Company
The REALTOR® of the Year award is a determined and inspiring role model to REALTORS® across Central Texas. Gordon Gorychka has dedicated his career to ethics and professionalism in the real estate business. Gorychka has led various initiatives throughout his 30 year membership in ABoR. Gorychka was the recipient of the 2002 Educator of the Year for Texas Association of REALTORS® (TAR). He is dedicated to education as writer of numerous ABoR MCE classes. Gorychka has also been longtime member of the Professional Standards Committee. He has also received two Chairman's Distinguished service awards.
Affiliate of the Year
Ellen Boettcher, Staging By Design
Ellen Boettcher is the recipient of the 2007 Affiliate of the Year award. A strong supporter of ABoR, Boettcher Chaired the Realty Round Up Committee in 2007. Boettcher is involved with the Austin Chapter of the Women's Council of REALTORS®. She is celebrating her fifth year of business with Staging By Design with over 3,500 homes staged in Austin.
Salesperson of the Year
Kay Andrews, Amelia Bullock
The 2007 Salesperson of the Year is Kay Andrews. As a member of ABoR for more than 15 years, Andrews has been an active member of ABoR Board of Directors and Director of the ABoR Foundation. She has worked on the Professional Standards panels and the Grievance Committee. Andrews closed 17 transactions in 2007 with a volume of over $12 million as of September. Her transitions in 2006 totaled more than $17 million.
Rookie of the Year
David Burton, Five Star GMAC Real Estate
The 2007 Rookie of the Year award is David Burton. In his short time as a REALTOR®, Burton has earned Performance Management Network and Quality Service Certification designations. He also closed 16 transactions in 2007. Burton is a member of seven different real estate organizations including the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals and Texas Real Estate Teachers Association. Burton is also Chair of the Women's Council of REALTORS® (WCR) Texas Chapter Membership Committee and Vice President of Membership for the Austin Chapter of WCR. Burton received both the 2003 Affiliate of the Year and 2001 Rookie of the Year award from the WCR Austin Chapter.
Cultural Awareness
Marie Dang-Schwartz, Realty World - John Horton
Recipient of the 2007 Cultural Awareness award is Marie Dang-Schwartz. In 2005, Schwartz was appointed to the ABoR Diversity Task Force and participated on the Cultural Diversity Committee. Schwartz is founder and current president of Asian Real Estate Professionals (AREP). Schwartz will function as the 2008 President Elect of Women's Council of REALTORS® (WCR). Schwartz works tirelessly to develop relationships between Asian and non-Asian organizations. She also strives to bring cultural understanding and acceptance to all real estate professionals.
The winners will be recognized at the annual Installation and Awards celebration. The event is scheduled for December 7 at 6 p.m. located at the Hilton Austin Hotel in downtown Austin.
