Neighborhood Safety Takes a Front Seat at National Night Out
August 4, 2009 - Join the City of Austin and the Austin Board of REALTORS® (ABoR) on Tuesday, October 6 for National Night Out. This event aims to improve neighborhood safety by drawing communities closer together, strengthening relationships between residents and police and generating awareness of crime and drug prevention activities. By taking a unified stand against crime, residents can improve the quality of life within their communities.
There are a number of ways your neighborhood can get involved with National Night Out: turn on your porch light and encourage your neighbors to do the same; host a block party or barbeque for your community; and invite police, fire or EMS personnel to your gathering. The deadline for booking emergency service personnel at your block party is Friday, August 28. National Night Out is also an excellent opportunity to plan community improvement projects, such as collecting canned goods or cleaning up shared spaces.
For more details on how you can get involved with National Night Out, including information on how to book an emergency service worker at your neighborhood’s festivities, visit http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/police/nno.htm or contact Rosie Salinas in the Community Liaison Office at 512/974-4900.
The Austin Board of REALTORS® is a non-profit, voluntary organization representing more than 8,000 licensed REALTORS® in Central Texas. For further information, please contact Angela Brutsché at 512/454-7636, ext. 1300.
