Workforce Housing Challenges Addressed at Local Forum

Regional forum and educational course set for August 12-13

July 15, 2010 - The Austin Board of REALTORS® (ABoR) is co-hosting the Bring Workers Home: 2010 Regional Forum on Workforce Housing and Employer Assisted Housing (EAH) Class on August 12 and 13 to raise awareness of employer-assisted housing benefits. Sponsored by the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and in partnership with the National Housing Conference (NHC), the two-day conference will be held at the Omni Hotel and Resort in Downtown Austin located at 700 San Jacinto at 8th Street.

The regional forum on August 12 will bring REALTORS®, local and state housing and business leaders together to discuss workforce housing challenges in the region, the best practices to address these issues and the strategies for how workforce housing programs can assist families in finding affordable, decent housing near where they work.

Following the forum is an Employer Assisted Housing (EAH) class on Friday, August 13. This class will offer real estate professionals a better understanding of employer-assisted housing benefits. Additionally, the course will help prepare REALTORS® to open the dialogue and work with businesses to implement housing benefits for their employees.

Individuals, REALTORS®, business and community leaders wanting to register for the forum and course may do so online at http://austin2010housingforum.eventbrite.com/. The cost for both the forum and EAH class is $50. Taken separately, the forum costs $45 and the class $15. Online registration for the event closes on Friday, July 30. Members of the media can register to attend by contacting Michele Anapol, NHC’s Director of Communications. For additional questions on the August events, contact Holly Moskerintz.
