CROSS-BORDER COOPERATION: BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN CENTRAL TEXAS & CANADA

The ABoR Global Advisory Group is thrilled to announce that on June 4, 2020, the Austin Board of REALTORS® and The Canadian Real Estate Association came together to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between our two associations.

Representatives from The Canadian Real Estate Association and Austin Board of REALTORS® included:

  • Michael Bourque, CEO, CREA
  • Costa Poulopoulos, Chair (ABoR President counterpart), CREA
  • Pauline Aunger, Chair of Global Committee, CREA
  • Marc Lafrance, Director of Product Management and Member Services, CREA
  • Sharon von Schoenberg, Product Manager Global Services, CREA
  • Emily Chenevert, CEO, ABoR
  • Romeo Manzanilla, 2020 President, ABoR
  • Bill Boyd, Global Advisory Chair, ABoR
  • Christine Wren, Global Liaison and Special Programs Lead, ABoR

The value that international collaboration brings to our local marketplace cannot be overstated. According to a 2019 NAR survey, three percent of the $8 billion spent by Canadians south of the border was in Texas (or $240,000,000 million).

Similarly, CREA's research on international activity concludes that over 12 percent of Canadian real estate buyers are from Texas, further demonstrating the importance of our relationship. This unique partnership will undoubtedly help REALTORS® in Canada and in Texas grow their cross-border referrals. Now that's something to get excited about!

Day One: Are You Canadian Cross-Border Ready?

Canada continues to take the top spot for inbound countries relocating to the Central Texas region. Pauline Aunger, Chair, Global Committee, and Sharon von Schoenberg, Product Manager, Global Services, from The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) provided an overview of the Canadian market in 2019, and what lies ahead for 2020.
