Welcome to the April 2018 President’s Corner!
In just a few minutes, you can get caught up on all of the major happenings in and around ABoR.
ABoR Names Emily Chenevert CEO
As you likely heard last week, the ABoR Board of Directors made a strong and united decision last week to name Emily Chenevert CEO of the Austin Board of REALTORS®, effective immediately. After much careful deliberation and months of working side by side with Emily, the Board decided to forego the expense and time it would take to undergo such a search. Nationally, REALTOR® organizations are experiencing strong turnover in leadership, making the search for REALTOR® Association and MLS executives highly competitive.
Emily has been raised in this industry and represents both our history and our future. Our industry is experiencing a wave of turnover associated with our existing leadership aging out of their current positions. Association Executives and CEOs of MLSs across the country are retiring, leaving our industry’s largest organizations looking for the next round of leaders. Emily is a perfect example of the next step. She knows our history, has come of age professionally alongside our membership and now she’s ready to move us forward. Learn more about this decision at ABoR.com/CEO.
Your Vote Needed: ABoR Bylaws Change
Later this week, all ABoR members will receive an email from ABoR requesting your vote to approve or deny a proposed change our bylaws. As you know, any change to ABoR's bylaws can only take effect if approved by a majority membership vote. On April 4, the Board of Directors passed a motion to bring greater transparency and member engagement to our annual Board of Directors nomination process. These changes include:
- Holding an annual Board of Directors election to ensure our members’ voices are always heard;
- Refining the Nominating Committee makeup and scope to accommodate the annual membership vote, bring more transparency to the Board nomination process and ensure the committee membership is more reflective of our membership at large;
- Reducing the number of signatures required from 5% to 1% of ABoR membership to secure a Board of Directors slate nomination by way of petition; and
- Moving the nomination of the Secretary/Treasurer and President-Elect from the Nominating Committee and place it in the authority of the Board of Directors.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to cast your vote on this very important matter. In the meantime, you can email me at email@example.com if you have any questions.
