There’s good news for Austin-area students wishing to attend Austin ISD schools. Starting in 2016, students who live out-of-district will be able to attend AISD schools that are accepting transfer students. Qualifying students who reside outside AISD boundaries are able to transfer into any AISD school with availability, which is a majority of district campuses. Out-of-district transfer requests will be accepted beginning February 1, 2016.
The change in transfer policy stems from a decision the AISD Board of Trustees made in December 2014. AISD District 4 Trustee Julie Cowan explains, “The change in policy was made with an eye to open seats at many AISD campuses with exemplary programs and opportunities for students. The change will expand access to these schools and create additional options for parents who live out of AISD boundaries, but commute in to Austin for work.”
Currently, AISD has a general open transfer policy provided there is availability at a given campus. AISD is accepting general transfer requests for the 2016-17 school year from January 4-29, 2016.
You can visit AISD’s website for more information on out-of-district and general transfer policies.
