Homeowners who are at least 65 years of age or who are disabled may defer paying all or a portion of the real estate taxes on their residence homestead. Section 33.06 of the Texas Tax Code provides that a homeowner who is over 65 or disabled may defer paying the real estate taxes on homestead property by filing an affidavit with the chief appraiser of the appraisal district in which the homestead property is located.
