Housing: Volunteer for Rebuilding Together Austin on April 24 and 25
The ABoR Foundation is partnering again with Rebuilding Together Austin for a volunteer work day to help a local resident in need.
We’re looking for at least 30 volunteers to join us on April 25 and April 26 to improve the home health and safety of Kyle residents, Adelia and Pascual Contreras. We’ll be helping with installing two wheelchair ramps, exterior painting, yard work, and other minor repairs.
Breakfast, lunch, and a t-shirt provided. No experience is required. Volunteers are recommended to bring their own work gloves and wear closed toed shoes.
Volunteers can sign up here.
Disaster Relief: Sound the Alarm Events
In an effort to reduce Austin home fire deaths and injuries by 25 percent, the American Red Cross Serving Central Texas is offering free fire safety education and smoke alarm installations throughout Austin the week of April 22. ABoR members can volunteer to install alarms on April 26 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at American Red Cross Chapter at 2218 Pershing Lane and April 27 from 8 a.m. to 2 pm. at St. James Baptist Church at 3417 East Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Get more details on this ABoR Foundation-supported initiative here.
Disaster Relief: Family Eldercare Fan Drive kicks off May 1
The relentless heat of Central Texas summers can lead to life-threatening situations for homebound seniors and adults with disabilities. You can help those in need beat the heat with a simple donation of a 20” box fan or monetary gift as part of Family Eldercare’s Summer Fan Drive. Last year the nonprofit gave their 100,000th fan to someone in need.
The 2019 Summer Fan Drive kicks off May 1 and culminates with the Fans From Fans celebration on June 14 at Shady Grove, which is always a lot of fun! Last year, the ABoR Foundation presented Family Eldercare with a $7,500 check and over 100 fans, and we’re hoping to set a new record this year! Will you help us beat the heat?
Acceptable donations include a new 20” box fan or 12” oscillating fan. Monetary contributions will also be accepted via PayPal here. REALTORS® can drop off their donations at ABoR's South location and at headquarters. In addition, fans can be dropped off all nine AMLI residential properties throughout Austin: AMLI Eastside (1000 San Marcos St.), AMLI South Shore (1620 Riverside Dr.), AMLI Downtown (201 Lavaca St.), AMLI Covered Bridge (8715 W. Highway 71), AMLI 300 (300 N. Lamar Blvd.), AMLI at Mueller (1900 Simond Ave.), AMLI 5350 (5350 Burnet Rd.), AMLI on 2nd (421 W. 3rd St.), and AMLI on Aldrich (2401 Aldrich St.).
Not sure where to purchase a fan? Check out the group’s Amazon wish-list! In addition to accepting donations, this year we’re looking for 75 volunteers to participate as volunteers in various capacities:
- Answer hotline calls and distribute fans in the Summer Fan Drive office. (Shifts are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon and noon to 3 p.m. Friday.
- Deliver Fans to clients and/or distribution sites
- Join the Fans From Fans planning committee
- Volunteer during Fans from Fans Events
If interested in getting involved, reach out to Foundation Coordinator Seunga Yu at email@example.com.
