NAR Legislative Meetings and Trade Expo: Here's What You Need to Know
Last month, the National Association of REALTORS® Board of Directors tackled several big changes. First, NAR adopted new policies that will strengthen enforcement of our Code of Ethics and allow stronger penalties for repeat offenders, such as publishing the members’ name, photo and a description of their violation.
NAR also approved a $30 membership dues increase that will take effect in 2019. The dues increase will help fund advocacy programming, the Commitment to Excellence professionalism initiative, and more. Get the full scoop in REALTOR® magazine.
At the same time, more than 40 ABoR members convened in Washington D.C. to meet with your local Congressional representatives. We discussed the top issues impacting our industry locally and nationally, including tax policy, equal access to housing, net neutrality, and the National Flood Insurance Program.
Locally, ABoR has been working non-stop with City of Austin staff and fellow advocacy groups to keep CodeNEXT on track for consideration by Austin City Council this summer. It’s so important for Austin to act now and pass a new a land development code that will set a strong foundation for our region’s future growth. Remember, ABoR has developed a series of videos, facts, conversation guides and more to help you talk about this important issue with your neighbors and clients. Learn more at ABoR.com/CodeNEXT.
Removal of Coming Soon (CS) Status
Last Wednesday, the ABoR Board of Directors voted to remove Coming Soon (CS) status as a listing input option in the ABoR MLS, effective later this year. This decision was made to ensure the MLS is used fairly, is held to the highest data quality standards, and creates an orderly marketplace. After extensive member feedback and deliberation at the Board and Committee level, it was found that the CS status led to negligible increases in the listings data available to our subscribers and its usage did not contribute towards an orderly marketplace. For more information on this decision, visit ABoR.com/ComingSoon.
