This update from ABoR President Kevin P. Scanlan previously appeared in the June 2019 issue of RealtyLine Austin.
Summer is the time for traveling, and this year the Austin Board of REALTORS® has been bringing the rest of the world to Central Texas through our ABoR Global program. As the 11th largest city in the U.S., Austin has recently seen a hike in international demand from countries all over the world, including France, Germany, Australia, Ghana, Brazil, and the Philippines. With foreign investment in real estate steadily increasing locally and nationally, we’ve decided it’s time to up our game.
What We've Done so Far
So far in 2019, we’ve taken several steps to expand ABoR Global. In January, we brought on a full-time special programs lead to manage our global initiative and facilitate member engagement programming that includes our ongoing speaker series, quarterly small broker meetups, happy hours, niche programming and more.
Second, we implemented a three-year ABoR Global Strategic Plan that includes a five-member Global Advisory Group and a 13-position Global Ambassador program. Serving as liaisons on behalf of ABoR, Global Ambassadors are generally CIPS designees appointed by the Global Advisory Group based on their working knowledge of the individual languages and cultures of those countries they represent. Currently, ABoR has Global Ambassadors for Canada, South America, Western Europe, Israel and Turkey, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland. Also, Asian Pacific, India, Spain and Portugal, France, Mexico, and China.
Finally, we’ve improved and greatly expanded the reach of our Global Lunch & Learn Series, which now includes bilingual programming and monthly meetups. Free to all ABoR members, this series connects REALTORS with international stakeholders and various industry leaders on the core issues impacting the global real estate market today, both at home and abroad. Our next Global Lunch & Learn: “Finding Your Passion: A Foreign Nationals Story,” will be held in English on July 10 and in Spanish on July 24. Save your seat at ABoR.com/Calendar.
