Welcome to the March 2018 President’s Corner!

In just a few minutes, you can get caught up on all of the major happenings in and around ABoR.

Housing Market Update & CodeNEXT

The January 2018 Central Texas Housing Market Report showed increases in home sales volume across the Central Texas region in the first month of 2018. At the same time, however, the median home price in the city of Austin jumped more than 10 percent year-over-year, while housing inventory levels in Austin fell to less than two months of inventory. This rapid price growth and continued shortages in inventory are not sustainable for our market.

CodeNEXT is the key to offsetting this trend in and around Austin. ABoR is in the process of reviewing the third draft of CodeNEXT and will be working closely with city officials to make sure that Austin is well positioned for future growth through a new land development code. Tune in to next month’s President’s Corner for more insights on CodeNEXT and how you can get involved.

Check back on this Thursday, March 15 for the February 2018 Central Texas Housing Market Report.

Board of Directors News & Decisions

Thank You for Your Feedback!
Nearly 1,500 members responded to the call to share their feedback on how ABoR can serve our members better in February, by responding to the 2018 Member Communications Survey and attending our February Small Broker Town Hall. Feedback from both of these initiatives is being shared with directly with the Board, and we’re looking forward to taking action on some of the recommendations this year.

Committee Agendas & Minutes on
In February, the ABoR Board voted to begin posting committee agendas on in advance of ABoR committee meetings. At last week’s Board meeting, the Board also voted to begin posting committee minutes to as well. Check the Committee pages on to find that committee’s agendas and minutes.

Bookmark the ABoR BoD Page
Don’t forget to also check the ABoR Board of Directors page to view Board Meeting agendas, (posted the Friday prior to each Board meeting), minutes, and a decision log for the year. You can also find current Strategic planning documents, the 2017 Member Satisfaction Survey results, and more on the Board of Directors page.

Your Feedback in Action: CSS
Last week, the ABoR Board voted to discontinue Centralized Showing Service (CSS Scheduler) as an MLS benefit, effective later this year. This is one of the many steps our Board is taking this year to be more inclusive and responsive to our members' feedback. ABoR will ensure that Matrix remains compatible with CSS Scheduler so that members who wish to continue using CSS Scheduler can sign up directly with CSS without any loss of compatibility. For more information on this decision, email

The next ABoR Board Meeting is Wednesday, April 4. Join us in person, or via livestream at!

ABoR Wins at City Hall

ABoR clocked a major victory at City Hall with the passage of Austin’s new Paid Sick Leave Ordinance. Upon learning of the draft ordinance, our advocacy team worked swiftly and closely with city leaders to ensure it would have minimal impact on REALTOR® businesses and our industry. Get the details on ABoR’s efforts and the new ordinance here.

Don’t Miss These March Events!

In addition to daily ABoR Academy classes at all three ABoR locations, this spring is packed with events where REALTORS® can learn more about our industry and our community. I hope to see you at one of the events below, and you can check out our full roster of classes and events on the calendar.

March 21: ABoR + AISD School Bus Tour
This is one of my favorite events of the year. ABoR and Austin ISD have partnered together to educate local REALTORS® about neighborhood schools, equipping them with the knowledge to become expert resources for their clients. Learn more about this year’s tour on the ABoR blog, and sign up to attend here.

March 28: Texas Farm & Ranch “State of the Union”
If you work in farm and ranch, ABoR’s March Forum featuring Dr. Charles Porter is a must-attend event. An award-winning author and real estate expert, Dr. Porter will be exploring trends, insights, and challenges for Farm and Ranch properties in Central Texas. Register for this free event here.

April 2: 2nd Annual Texas Residential Realty Summit
Natural disasters have an ever-increasing impact on Texas real estate sales and appraisals. Is there a way our industry can learn from (and better respond to) them? This daylong event presented by TREC and the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University will explore just that. To review the program agenda and register, click here.

As always, I welcome your feedback, comments, and ideas. If you have questions, you can reach out to me anytime on Facebook or email me directly at

Until next time – have a great Spring Break!
