Following Gov. Greg Abbott's recent executive order and Report to Open Texas, there have been questions about the possibility of in-person open houses. In-person showings and open houses are not prohibited under Gov. Abbott's plan, so the ACTRIS MLS Board of Directors met to discuss the issue today. They voted to reinstate the in-person Open House listing options in Matrix, effective immediately. They did so to ensure maximum flexibility across the marketplace, but with caution to anyone proceeding with in-person open houses at this time.
This is not business as usual and while the field is available for use, we must all show extreme caution with how we proceed in and across the market. This change will join the Virtual Open House listing options that were added last week as a permanent addition to the MLS.
When a tour or open house cannot be conducted virtually, you should take extreme caution when interacting with colleagues or clients in person. This includes employing the safety and sanitization measures required to keep everyone safe.
It's more important than ever for you to adhere to your broker's policies regarding how to safely conduct in-person showings and open houses at this time. We've created these in-person Showing Guidelines, including a customizable door sign for open houses. We've also updated our Best Practices for Showing and Marketing Listings with new guidance to help you in the field, but you should continue to work with your broker on any new procedures or safety measures put in place for your brokerage.
Finally, we encourage you to proactively communicate with your clients to ensure they are comfortable with all the activity occurring in their property and any safety measures you’re using in your business now.
Over the last 44 days, we've all learned to adapt and innovate in ways that are both safe and serve your clients. Thank you for stepping up as a leader in the industry to protect the health and safety of our community.
