  • This course was developed by the CIPS® program and launched in December 2022, specifically for real estate practitioners interested in elevating their knowledge, skills, and understanding of the real estate industry in Africa. You will learn about the geography, demographics, government, economy, and real estate sectors in 11 countries. You will be introduced to our newest bilateral partners in Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa. Because this is such a dynamic continent, you will be provided with resources to keep you updated with current economic and real estate trends. Finally, you will learn about the cultural norms that affect business practices in each country.

CIPS education will provide you with the knowledge and resources to position yourself as a global practitioner in your local market. This 5-day institute will satisfy the education requirements to apply for your CIPS designation, the only international designation recognized by the National Association of REALTORS®.

In this five-day CIPS Institute, you will learn the critical aspects of international real estate transactions, including:

  • Globalization of economics
  • International capital flow
  • Marketing and business planning strategies
  • Roles and expectations in international transactions

The CIPS® designation is for REALTORS® from the United States and abroad, as well as association staff and volunteer leaders who wish to develop or grow their international real estate business. It will provide you with the knowledge, research, network, and tools to globalize your business. You must complete five (5) CIPS® classes to be able to apply for the CIPS® designation.

CIPS education will provide you with the knowledge and resources to position yourself as a global practitioner in your local market. This 5-day virtual institute will satisfy the education requirements to apply for your CIPS designation, the only international designation recognized by the National Association of REALTORS®.

In this five-day CIPS Institute, you will learn the critical aspects of international real estate transactions, including:

This designation also provides students with an At Home with Diversity® certification along with ABR® and CRS elective credits. You must complete five (5) CIPS® classes to be able to apply for the CIPS® designation.

  • If you reside in a country where NAR has a Cooperating Association, you must be a member of that Association in order to join the CIPS Network/NAR and earn the designation.
  • If you reside in a country where NAR does not have a Cooperating Association, you must agree to abide by NAR's code of ethics and join the Cooperating Association if developed in the future.

Meet Our Lead Instructor

Socar Chatmon Thomas Head Shot

Socar Chatmon-Thomas is a REALTOR, R.E. Broker, and Auctioneer. As the Broker/Owner of Elegant Estates Realty & Auctions, she actively represents commercial and residential clients in the Austin Metro Area. Beginning her career in the mid-1990s with Coldwell Banker, Socar quickly gained the "top producer" label and ranked in the top 5% of agents nationwide.

Socar loves to travel!!! Once she discovered NAR's CIPS designation, she quickly earned it! By earning her CIPS designation, she has managed to marry her love for international travel with her love for real estate. As she travels worldwide, she connects with other CIPS designees and real estate professionals, thus creating a massive global referral network.

Back home in Texas, Socar is also a Certified Texas REALTORS Instructor. She has received several honors for her work in real estate, including the coveted Omega Tau Rho award, ABOR’s Community Service Award, the REALTOR of the Year Award, Austin's Educator of the Year in 2021, NAR Hall of Fame, and was most recently named Texas REALTORS Educator of the Year 2022.

As a Past Chairman of the Austin Board of Realtors, she remains locally and nationally active. She is currently serving as a Director for the National Association of Realtors representing Texas and Louisiana in Region 10.

Socar comes from a long line of educators and entrepreneurs: Her mother taught elementary school in Houston for over 33 years, and her father, an electrical engineer, owned a commercial construction company. Chatmon-Thomas brings energy, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude to the classroom. She enjoys real estate and is as passionate about excellence as she is about education.
