TREC License Renewal

First License Renewal
  • When: Two years after getting license
  • Cost: Varies
  • Required by: TREC
  • Hours: If you are renewing for the first time, active or inactive, you must have a total of 270 qualifying real estate course hours, four hours of TREC's Legal Update I, and four hours of TREC's Legal Update II posted to your license record prior to submitting your renewal. If you have been made a supervisor by your broker for six months or more, you need to take the six-hour Broker Responsibility course to renew.

There are two options to knock out your SAE qualifying hours:

  • Enroll in ABoR's SAE Program. It's the most affordable way to meet your first license renewal requirement!
  • Take GRI Brokerage, Marketing: Business Skills, and Contracts to Close, part of the Graduate REALTOR® Institute designation, and earn qualifying SAE hours or all of your license renewal elective CE hours for that renewal period.

Second and All Following License Renewals

  • When: Every two years after the first renewal
  • Cost: Varies
  • Required by: TREC
  • Hours: 18 hours (4 hours TREC Legal I, 4 hours TREC Legal II, 3 hours of contract-related coursework, 7 CE elective hours).

If you are a broker holding sales agent licenses or a sales agent that has been made a supervisor by your broker for six months or more, you are mandated to take six hours of Broker Responsibility as part of your 18 hour CE requirement.
