ABoR Foundation Donates $10,000 to Central Texas Nonprofits

Austin Board of REALTORS® Foundation donates $10,000 to Central Texas nonprofits

Funds to be used for winter storm relief

AUSTIN, TX – The Austin Board of REALTORS® (ABoR) Foundation has committed a combined $10,000—$5,000 each to Meals on Wheels Central Texas and Austin Disaster Relief Network—as a continuation of their Give Back Program. The funds will help provide meals and repair/rebuild services for Central Texans affected by the February winter storm.

“When Texas was hit with an unprecedented winter snowstorm in February, many in our community were left without power, water or food,” Susan Horton, 2021 ABoR President, said.  “No one should ever have to worry about access to meals or essential services and that is why the ABoR Foundation is stepping up to help our neighbors in need. Austin REALTORS® are proud to support these nonprofits by helping to provide meals and home repair assistance to Central Texans who were impacted by the storm and are still in need of a helping hand.”

Meals on Wheels Central Texas seeks to nourish and enrich the lives of the Central Texas community by distributing 3,000 meals each business day to homebound elderly adults and people with disabilities. The ABoR Foundation’s $5,000 donation will be used to provide meals to seniors and adults with disabilities across 21 counties in the greater Austin area. “It has been a hard year for our community and especially for the most vulnerable among us, including our homebound older adults. In the middle of a pandemic, our state was hit by a historic winter storm that left many of our clients without power and water,” said Meals on Wheels Central Texas President and CEO Adam Hauser. “These are the times that the vulnerable, homebound seniors we serve really need the community’s support. That is why we are incredibly grateful for the generosity from the Austin Board of REALTORS® Foundation – a gift that will provide over 1000 meals to hungry seniors in Central Texas.”

Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN) is comprised of nearly 200 Greater Austin churches and thousands of trained volunteers bringing hope into crisis. ADRN’s network enables and empowers church members to organize, prepare, mobilize, and respond quickly in the event of disaster, great or small. The ABoR Foundation’s donation will be used for emergency housing, gift cards for emergency supplies such as food and gas, and supplies for home repairs. "We are grateful for the partnership of the Austin Board of Realtors® on behalf of those impacted by Winter Storm Uri,” Daniel Geraci, Austin Disaster Relief Network Executive Director said. “Hundreds of families suffered severe damage to their homes from burst pipes, flooding, and fallen trees during the storm. The resources ABoR provides will help these people repair and rebuild so that they have a safe and clean place to live once again."

Albert Allen, ABoR Foundation Chair said the ABoR Foundation’s Give Back Program was created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to make an immediate difference during challenging times.

“In 2020 alone, the Foundation served over 73,000 Austinites and donated $28,000 to Central Texas nonprofits. We are proud to continue our support and dedication to our community by providing meals and repair services following the devastating winter storm.”
