29 students receive combined $70,000 in scholarships

AUSTIN, TX – Today, the Austin Board of REALTORS®  Foundation awarded 29 local high school seniors and college students a combined $70,000 in higher education scholarships based on academic merit, demonstrated leadership, and financial need. This includes 24, $2,500 scholarships to high school graduates and five, $2,000 alumni scholarships to previous ABoR Foundation scholarship recipients.

“This year’s scholars are remarkable,” Elizabeth Michael, ABoR Foundation chair, said. “The perseverance and determination they have exhibited has earned them this deserved recognition. I want to thank the Central Texas REALTORS®who, through the ABoR Foundation, are building stronger communities by investing in the futures of each of these deserving students.”

The ABoR Foundation has awarded more than 500 scholarships since 1978, totaling nearly $500,000 in the last six years alone. Recipients must reside within ABoR’s 18-county Central Texas service area and have committed to a Texas university, college or trade school in order to receive the scholarship.

Funding for the ABoR Foundation Scholarship Program is made possible by the support of more than 18,000 Central Texas REALTORS® and real estate professionals.

“The real estate industry has given so much to me—I feel it’s my duty to return the favor and give back where I can,” Cord Shiflet, ABoR president, said. “As REALTORS®, we play an important role in our communities and that includes nurturing our next generation of leaders.
